Spring is finally here! As the days grow longer and the temperatures rise, athletes and active individuals are eager to get back outside, increase their training, and enjoy their favourite sports. However, transitioning from winter’s slower pace to the high-energy demands of spring can put extra stress on your body, increasing the risk of injuries. At Kinetic Clinics, our sports therapy team want to help you stay healthy, pain-free, and performing at your best this season.

Common Springtime Injuries

With the change in weather and activity levels, certain injuries become more common, including:

Sprains and Strains – Jumping back into activity too quickly without proper conditioning can lead to overstretched or torn muscles and ligaments.

Tendinopathies – Increased repetitive movements, such as running or swinging a racket, can inflame tendons and cause pain.

Shin Splints – A rapid increase in running or high-impact activities can stress the lower legs and lead to discomfort.

Low Back Pain – Poor posture or sudden increases in activity can strain the lower back muscles, particularly for those of you who work from home or at a desk.

Tips for a Safe and Effective Spring Training

To help you transition smoothly into springtime sports and workouts, follow these key tips:

Warm Up and Cool Down Properly

Always take 5–10 minutes before and after exercise to warm up and stretch. Dynamic stretching before activity and static stretching afterward can improve flexibility and reduce injury risk.

Ease Back into Activity

If you’ve been less active during the winter, gradually increase the intensity and duration of your workouts to give your body time to adapt.

Stay Hydrated

Warmer temperatures mean increased sweating, so drink plenty of water throughout the day to keep your muscles functioning optimally.

Listen to Your Body

Pay attention to aches and pains. If something doesn’t feel right, don’t push through it—early intervention can prevent more serious injuries.

Get a Professional Assessment

A sports therapist can evaluate your movement patterns, identify imbalances, and provide personalised exercises to enhance performance and prevent injuries.
